Venue and Accommodation

Metz (pronounced ‘Mess’) is one of the main cities of France's Lorraine region, which lies near Luxembourg, Germany and Belgium. Located on the River Moselle, Metz is known for its namesake cathedral—a marvelous display of stained glass—and its Pompidou-Metz Center, an offshoot of the Pompidou Center in Paris.

Metz is a medieval city. Its origins date back to more than three thousand years ago. Birthplace of the Carolingian dynasty, the city has an impressive architectural wealth where antique, medieval and Germanic influences peacefully coexist. Metz main train station has been three times voted “Most Beautiful Train Station” in France.

Travel from Paris to Metz

A fast and easy rail service connects Metz to Paris: TGV, France's intercity high-speed rail service. These trains cover the distance in just an hour and 20 minutes. They depart from Paris' Gare de l’Est and arrive at the Gare de Metz-Ville (Metz-City), a short walk from the city center. Tickets start at 16 euros and can be booked in advance via SNCF Connect or TheTrainLine.

Keep in mind that TGV trains also operate as commuter trains, so they become especially busy during rush hours, and therefore more expensive.
